Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Breast lift or Mastopexy is designed to improve the shape and position of the breasts without reducing their size. Sagging (ptosis) of the breasts may occur with weight loss, pregnancy, breast-feeding and generalized aging.  A breast lift procedure cannot be performed without some degree of scarring. However, the scars will heal and fade over time.

When the nipple and most of the gland remains above the inframammary fold, the breast may be correctable with implant–based surgery. This is also called augmentation mastopexy and is generally performed when the main problem is volume deficiency.

If the nipple location is below the inframammary fold and most of the breast tissue is similarly below the fold, then correction can only be achieved through a breast lift.

Suitable patients

  • Those who have realistic expectations of the outcome
  • Breasts which have lost their shape and volume, and have a pendulous positioning
  • Breasts which have developed a flatter, elongated shape over time
  • When unsupported, the nipples fall below the breast crease
  • Nipples and areolas point downwards
  • Breast tissue is stretched with enlarged areolas
  • One breast is lower than the other
